OJ Simpson released from prison

The juice is loose! Once an embraced phrase, that is sure to bring many people’s blood to a boil when they wake up to this news.

Former NFL star O.J. Simpson is once again a free man. Simpson was released early this morning after spending nine years behind bars for his involvement in an attempted heist in Las Vegas. That incident led to another arrest and this time, conviction that included a long prison sentence.

Simpson’s lawyers said the long sentence was unfair while many people believe it was a make up call and justice for him avoiding conviction when he was accused of the duel murder of his ex-wife and her friend. That acquittal in 1995 in Los Angeles was called the “trial of the century” and caused an uproar around the country.

Simpson’s release occurred at 12:08 a.m. PDT from Lovelock Correctional Center in northern Nevada and prison officials said this was planned to avoid a media circus.

Simpson, now 70 years old, was granted freedom and parole at a hearing in July this year and will face five years of parole supervision.

On Sept. 16, 2007, Simpson led five men to a Las Vegas casino to retrieve personal items that Simpson insisted were stolen after his acquittal in the 1994 murders. Two of Simpson’s accomplices were packing guns and this all led to his conviction.

A friend of Simpson’s recently said Simpson was planning to move back to Florida. Simpson is a former resident of Florida but lost his Miami area house in 2012 to foreclosure. His children, Justin and Sydney, also reside in the state so it appears to be his best option.

The Florida Department of Corrections said they have not received a transfer request while Pam Bondi, the controversial attorney general, said Florida doesn’t want him there. She said:

“The specter of [OJ Simpson] residing in comfort in Florida should not be an option. Our state should not become a country club for this convicted criminal.”

About the Vegas arrest that led to a conviction, Simpson told officials that leading the group of armed men into the 2007 hotel room confrontation was an error in judgment. He also told a Vegas parole board that he has led a “conflict-free life”. That comment fueled a social media blitz of anger because most people feel he got away with the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and her friend Ronald Goldman.

Simpson once known as “Juice”, won the Heisman Trophy while playing for USC in 1968 and became one of the NFL’s all-time great running backs and a fan favorite with the Buffalo Bills.

A jury swiftly acquitted him of those murders but Simpson was found liable in civil court for the killings and ordered to fork over more than $33 million to the Goldman family and others.

The Goldmans have been staying on top of this too, following most every move Simpson has made since being granted the case, and demanding any money he makes to go to the them and the civil judgment. The family says that judgment has doubled, escalating to about $65 million.

Titus Young gets four year sentence

After a slew of arrests over the years, former Detroit Lions player Titus Young finally landed a long-term prison sentence. Young, one of GM Martin Mayhew’s 2nd round draft busts was given four years behind bars for his participation in a 2016 street fight.

Now that sentence may sound severe but when you look at Young’s history, it’s easier to see where the judge’s head was at when he slammed the gavel on Young.

Young has been busted a bunch of times. One of the more recent was in January 2016 in Los Angeles after he bolted out of a court-ordered mental facility and was involved in a fight with a neighbor. That altercation is said to have involved a deadly weapon.

According to sources, Young has been in jail since August but will now be able to unpack his bags for a much longer stay.

Since Young left the NFL, he’s had a laundry list of legal issues that include several arrests. In 2013, he was busted twice in one day in 2013, once being cited for DUI then later in the day he was caught trying to trespass to break his car out of the impound lot. He was arrested yet again that same week on charges of assaulting an officer during a home break-in. Then of course, we should also mention his arrest on five counts of battery in 2014.

We included one of Young’s mugshots. For more NFL mugshots check out our Mugshot Gallery here.

Pistons Kentavious Caldwell-Pope mugshot and arrest.

Detroit Pistons guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was arrested Wednesday morning for suspicion of DUI, just hours after a game against the Miami Heat.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Auburn Hills police pulled over the 24-year-old NBA player after he was clocked driving his 2015 Jeep Wrangler about 45 mph in a 25 mph zone.

The cop on the scene reported smelling alcohol and ran KCP through sobriety tests. According to the police report, when KCP was asked to say the alphabet from B to N, he sang the alphabet and kept going far past N.

The breathalyzer test he took was said to show a blood-alcohol content of 0.08 so he was written a ticket and posed for the mugshot shown here.

KCP, who is in his 4th and final season of his rookie contract, will be a restricted free agent this upcoming offseason.

The NBA said they will run a separate investigation and wait for the legal case to run its course.

NFL cornerbacks arrested for “interference”?!

Two NFL players walk into a bar… a penalty flag is thrown, five yard penalty for interference. Wait…make that two mugshots, handcuffs and one taser for “interference”.

Chicago Bears cornerback Deiondre Hall and Green Bay Packers cornerback Makinton Dorleant were arrested for “interference” over the weekend in Cedar Falls.

Yeah they were cuffed, cheesed for mugshots and one of them even tasered for the infraction — but we should point out, this infraction didn’t include a zebra tossing a yellow flag. This infraction involves an alleged fight.

The NFL players were taken to jail after the alleged fight broke out and according to the Black Hawk County Sheriff, Hall was cited for disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and interference while Dorleant was cited for interference.

Cedar Falls cops say they were heading to another call in their area and happened to notice a bouncer, at a place called Sharky’s, trying to remove people from the establishment.

The bouncer told police he was assaulted so authorities are expecting surveillance video to provide info regarding that accusation. If tape shows the assault occurred, there may be an assault charge added.

The cops also say, while they were trying to bring order back, a crowd gathered and started getting aggressive and recording the incident. One Cedar Falls police officer was allegedly hit in the head with a beer bottle but not hurt. We have to assume that Jay Cutler wasn’t with his former teammate Hall because that throw hit its mark. Note: the cop said he was okay after getting struck.

We mentioned, taser. Hall was said to be the victim of that because police say he wasn’t cooperating when they were trying to bust him.

Can you blame him? Cuffed and a mugshot for “interference”?!

NFL free agent Michael Thomas mugshot and arrest

Free agent NFL wide receiver Michael Thomas was arrested in Georgia on March 19. The list of charges are reported to include possession of a firearm or knife during commission of a felony, aggravated assault, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and cruelty to children in the 3rd degree.

According to KRMG’s website, Thomas was involved in a domestic dispute with a woman while a child’s birthday party was being thrown in the same house. According to the report, Thomas is accused of hitting the woman with open and closed fists.

Police said they heard screaming and yelling coming from inside the house as they responded. A police officer pulled a taser and ordered Thomas to the ground. Thomas complied and was arrested. That’s when cops found a 9mm gun on Thomas, thus the additional firearm charge.

Thomas, 29 years old, was drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the fourth round of the NFL 2009 draft and suited up three and a half seasons for the team.

In is career, the wide out has played six seasons in the league for multiple teams, including the Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals with one stint in the Canadian Football league with the Toronto Argonauts. And a quick note here, this is not the NFL player Michael Thomas that plays for the Saints or the other that plays for the Dolphins. How many Michael Thomas’ this league have?!

The arrest occurred in Sandy Springs and his mugshot is shown here. For more athletes and sports figure’s mugshots, go to our Jocks Behind Bars mugshot gallery.

Todd Marinovich pleads guilty to charges

Former Oakland Raiders and USC Trojans quarterback Todd Marinovich pleaded guilty this past week to misdemeanor public nudity, trespassing and drug charges. The five charges stem from his arrest last year in Irvine, California.

Marinovich’s guilty plea produced a 90-day jail sentence from the courts. But his attorney, Adam Cole, said the jail sentence is stayed if Marinovich completes six months in an outpatient rehab facility and three years of probation.

Marinovich, 47 years old, was busted in August after police were called about someone wandering around naked in a backyard. Police arrived on the scene and later said Marinovich was naked and had a bag that contained methamphetamine, weed, syringes, and other drug paraphernalia.

According to Cole, Marinovich checked into an out patient drug rehab center after that arrest and is doing well with treatments. He went on to say his client has been testing clean since that August arrest.

Marinovich has had a long list of drug related arrests over the years; approximately nine in Orange County, California alone. One of his past arrests occurred when he was attending USC in 1991 and was busted for possession of cocaine. Others were for much more minor incidents like possession of marijuana and skateboarding in no skate zones. But none seemed as bizarre as this most recent arrest in Irvine.

Regardless of his long history, an opportunity to finally stay clean and avoid being thrown behind bars is in place for the former football star.

Rams’ Ethan Westbrooks mugshot and arrest

Sacramento police say that Los Angeles Rams’ defensive lineman, Ethan Westbrooks, was busted on Sunday night after accusations of domestic violence.

Cops say they were called to the 8700 block of Center Parkway at 9:06 p.m. Sunday regarding a dispute. After arrival, police said they saw visible injuries to a woman’s body.

The 26-year—old Westbrooks was not at the location so police went to another nearby residence on Clearbrook Way where they cuffed and booked the NFL player on suspicion of domestic violence. Westbrooks left the jail the following morning.

The Rams released the cliché statement that sounds like most of the others we’ve heard from NFL teams over the years,

“We are aware of the serious allegations involving Ethan Westbrooks. We are in contact with authorities and gathering more information. Per team policy, we will continue to respect the legal process and have no further comment at this time.”

Westbrooks is currently a free agent after playing in all 16 games last season for the Rams while tallying two sacks and 24 tackles.

Westbrooks’ mugshot is pictured here. For more sports arrests and mugshots, go to our Jocks Behind Bars homepage here.

Rams’ Tre Mason arrested in Hollywood

Los Angeles Rams running back Tre Mason was hit with a taser and arrested in Hollywood, Florida, according to a police report.

The Hollywood PD busted Mason on suspicion of possession of weed, reckless driving and resisting arrest.

The Rams who are in the process of making a major move to Los Angeles have better things to do than deal with their disruptiveness released a cliche styled statement:

“We are very disappointed to learn of an incident involving Tre Mason in the Miami, Fla., area Saturday afternoon. We are in the process of obtaining more information about the facts surrounding this incident .”

Here’s the scoop…

An officer started following Mason after seeing him drive more than twice the speed limit in a 35 mph zone. The cop said Mason refused to give his name or provide his driver’s license. The officer said he smelled marijuana in Mason’s Porsche and asked him to exit the vehicle.

According to the police report, Mason refused to exit the car and tried to “brace himself” inside the car so officers tried to pull him out. After not being able to budge the stocky athlete, we’re assuming that’s where the taser comes in.

Sounds like these cops could’ve used J.J. Watt or Suh

Ex-Cowboys player Randle arrested again

Former Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was busted again, and cheesed for yet another mugshot.

Randle was at the party when an argument started then he was asked to leave. He did, but in the process he allegedly backed his Honda Accord into three people who were standing near the driveway.

None of the three were hurt but Randle later returned to the party and allegedly busted his way back in through a door.  That’s when cops were called and the troubled Cowboys’ player was arrested.

Randle, 24, was booked into jail on suspicion of three counts of aggravated battery and one count each of criminal damage to property and possession of hallucinogenics/marijuana.

Randle, who was cut from Dallas last year is collecting a string of mugshots.

He was busted in Texas earlier this month on a speeding warrant and back in November, he was arrested at a casino after an alleged altercation at a blackjack table in Kansas City.

To add to his laundry list of being cuffed, in October 2014 he was busted for shoplifting two pair of Polo underwear and cologne from a Dilliard’s store.

Seriously? You can’t pay for two pair of underwear after signing a $2.5 million NFL contract?

Get a grip, dude!
