Cedric Benson arrested on family assault charge

Cincinnati Bengals running back, and soon-to-be unrestricted free agent, Cedric Benson was arrested in Travis County, Texas, earlier this morning and charged with assault causing bodily injury to a family member.

And by the looks of his mugshot, he doesn’t seem too broken up about the whole ordeal.

The troubled running back was released just before 2 p.m. on a $10,000 bond, and although the no other details have been made available, his attorney did state that the arrest was the result of “a conflict” between Benson and a former roommate.

And for any football fan, this is just more of the same news. This arrest is just the latest legal issue for Benson, who was arrested in Austin last June, on an assault charge following a dispute outside a bar. The trial for that arrest was originally scheduled for June 27, but was delayed until August 29, at the request of Benson’s lawyer, who now has his hands full with two assault arrests in Travis County.

With this charge, Benson now joins several other NFL players arrested recently, including fellow Bengals teammate Adam “Pacman” Jones, Dancing with the Stars champ Hines Ward who was arrested for driving while intoxicated, and Tennesee Titans wide receiver Kenny Britt, who is basically a regular here at Jocks Behind Bars.

And even though the Bengals organization is not allowed to comment on the arrest, due to the terms of the NFL lockout, a team spokesman has indicated that the team is aware of the incident. All we know is that this arrest is just another red flag for interested teams and likely the last straw for several others.
