Dustin Byfuglien arrested for BWI

Winnipeg Jets defenseman Dustin Byfuglien was arrested late last night on Lake Minnetonka in Minnesota on suspicion of boating while intoxicated.

He was booked into the Hennepin County jail around 11:00 p.m. and released early Thursday morning.

As of this afternoon, Byfuglien’s mugshot has not been released and no formal charges have been arraigned.

Byfuglien, who won the Stanley Cup with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2010, reportedly refused to take a sobriety test and allegedly weighed in nearly 40 lbs over his playing weight.

Darren Wolfson, an ESPN contributor who broke the story, tweeted the following after hearing about the arrest:

“Re: Byfuglien – told now refusal of BWI (boating) test. Also told he weighed in at 286 lbs. Holy crap! He played at about 245 lbs last year.”

The 26-year-old was born and raised in Minnesota and currently spends his off-season there, where he rents a home in Spring Park, which is a small settlement on Lake Minnetonka. He is now a member of the Winnipeg Jets after the Atlanta Thrashers were moved there this summer.
