Jalen Rose gets jail time for DUI

ESPN analyst Jalen Rose  was sentenced to serve 20 days in jail by a Michigan judge for his earlier DUI arrest that occurred on an icy suburban Detroit road in March. Rose also received a one-year probation term.

After failing the sobriety test that evening, Rose was taken to an area hospital where his blood-alcohol content registered 0.12 percent, .04 above Michigan’s legal driving limit of 0.08 percent. According to reports, Rose admitted to having six martinis that night before getting behind the wheel.

Once considered one of the top role models for young men in sports, Rose is now scheduled to spend time behind bars unless his legal team goes for an appeal; a strategy many expect due to the nature of the sentence.

Kimberly Small is the judge who threw the harsh sentence at Rose and it triggered scathing responses from his attorneys and when you think about it, for good reason.

Rose had a clean record prior to this arrest and Michigan does not have any minimal sentence for first-time DUI offenders. Rose also has a laundry list of charitable ventures to his credit and is said to have donated millions of dollars to help intercity youth and overseas people in need.

Rose, shown in his mugshot here, apologized for the incident saying:

“I regret the decision to drive home that evening and am grateful that no one was hurt in the accident… I am particularly sorry for disappointing those who trust me to serve as a role model for young people.”
