Nikolai Khabibulin busted for boozin’

NHL goalie Khabibulin guilty of DUI

It’s no secret that some NHL players can slam down the drinks with the best of them and the most recent guilty verdict against one of the league’s players for drinking and driving came yesterday in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Edmonton Oilers goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin not only was found guilty of speeding but he was also nailed for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol over twice the legal limit, they call that an “extreme DUI” in some places.

The 37-year-old goalie was originally arrested on February 8, 2010 after he was yanked to the curb for speeding in his black Ferrari, hey at least he’s got a cool car. Not cool though is the fact the he blew a .164 that’s way off the hell off the Richter scale.

The cops responded by cuffing him and having him cheese for the mug shot shown here. Not really a bad mug considering how much the dude drank. Look at this other “wasted driver” mugshot here and you’ll see what we mean.

This guilty verdict is bad news for the Oilers and their netminder since driving with a blood-alcohol content more than twice the legal limit in Arizona is known as one of those “extreme DUI” cases mentioned earlier and extreme DUI offenders many times get thrown behind bars for a minimum of 30 days.

A veteran who has suited up for several teams over his career, Khabibulin missed most of last season with a herniated disc injury that required going under the knife in January.

While the sentencing trial is set for August 31 pending approval of the state, Khabibulin joins other NHL Jocks Behind Bars members, Patrick Kane and Chris Chelios. And don’t forget the honorable mention for Sergei Federov who can be found cheesing in our Mug Shots Gallery.
