Derrell Johnson-Koulianos arrested on multiple drug charges

Derrell Johnson-Koulianos, the Iowa Hawkeyes all-time leading receiver, was arrested earlier today for the possession of marijuana, cocaine and prescription drugs. Johnson-Koulianos, shown in his mug shot here, was released after posting an $8,000 bond and has been charged with four counts of possession of controlled substances, each of which could lead up to one year in prison.

His arrest was part of the Iowa City Police Street Crimes drug investigation that had a warrant to search the home of former drug convict Brady Johnson, who is the roommate of Johnson-Koulianos.

Immediately upon hearing of the arrest, Hawkeyes coach Kirk Ferentz suspended his top receiver from all further team activities and stated that he’s “highly disappointed to learn of the charges.”

On November 29th, Johnson-Koulianos was a first-team All-Big Ten selection and has accounted for 10 TD’s and 745 yards this season. Despite his numerous accolades, this latest arrest will be a rather large mark on his otherwise flawless record.

Along with the drugs, police also found a digital scale and other items used for the sale of drugs, and over $3,000 in cash. The star receiver admitted to recently using the drugs and submitted a urine test, which came out positive.

Unfortunately for him, being honest does not make him innocent.

He is expected to make his initial court appearance Wednesday and both his personal Facebook and Facebook fan pages have already been deleted. No word yet on whether he has a Twitter account or if it has been deleted.
