Lenny Dykstra goes to jail

Former MLB star Lenny Dykstra was sent to jail yesterday after being charged with 25 misdemeanor and felony counts, including grand theft auto, drug possession and identity fraud. These charges stem from an incident surrounding Dykstra’s use of false information to lease a car from a Southern California dealership.

Dykstra currently remains behind bars with his bond set at $500,000 and a bail-review hearing set for Friday. If convicted, the man behind “baseball’s most improbable post-career success story” could face up to 12 years in prison. And based on his mug shot, we’re not so sure thats he’s aware of the serious

According to the prosecutors, Dykstra, along with his accountant and a friend, tried to lease luxury cars from several dealerships by providing bogus information and claiming credit through a non-existent business called “Home Free Systems”. Despite being rejected by two dealerships, the men were able to con three cars off of a dealership in Southern California.

When police arrested Dykstra for his connection in the car scam, they found and seized cocaine, ecstasy and somatropin — a human growth hormone. Just a day earlier, he was charged with over a dozen federal counts, including bankruptcy fraud and obstruction of justice, for allegedly stealing more than $400,000 in property from his bankrupt home.

If that’s not bad enough, he was then, in a separate case, accused of lewd conduct after he allegedly exposed his privates to a woman he was interviewing for a housekeeper position.

So clearly things have gone extremely far south for this former highly-touted business entrepreneur. He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 16th, with the two other men involved, and will likely remain in custody until then.

Lenny Dykstra arrested for grand theft

Former MLB star Lenny Dykstra was arrested on Thursday for investigation of grand theft after trying to buy a stolen car. He is currently being held at the L.A. County Jail in downtown L.A. on $500,000 bond and will have a pre-trial date set sometime this coming week.

Although more details have not yet been released, this arrest comes just one day after Dykstra was charged with felony fraud, stemming from his involvement in embezzling items from a bankruptcy estate.

Once a prominent baseball star and business entrepreneur, Dykstra has seen a significant fall from grace in the past few years, which resulted in him filing for bankruptcy in 2009. In his claim, Dykstra stated that he owed more than $31 million and had only $50,000 in assets. However, federal prosecutors argue that after filing, Dykstra hid, sold or destroyed more than $400,000 worth of items from his multi-million dollar mansion without permission of a bankruptcy trustee, which, in essence, is stealing.

The majority of the items were sports memorabilia, but he also allegedly took a $50,000 granite sink, a high-end desk, and sold a “truckload of furnishing and fixtures” for cash at a second-hand shop.

The earlier reports indicate that Dykstra had not yet obtained an attorney, but with the FBI on the case, we assume a high-powered one will be in his corner soon.
