Tony La Russa was arrested during March 2007 in Jupiter Florida for suspected DUI after police found the MLB manager passed out at the wheel of his SUV (See that video here).
That night, police saw La Russa’s car sitting at the intersection through two green lights and decided it was time to go investigate. When they approached the car, they recognized the driver as the manager for the St. Louis Cardinals and woke him up for a sobriety test.
Here is the video of La Russa’s interview after he was cuffed and arrested:
While being booked in the Palm Beach County jail, the 62-year-old St. Louis Cardinals’ skipper posed for the mugshot shown here. According to police reports, La Russa was released after posting $500 cash bond.
La Russa has always been a direct sort of guy and stuck in the middle of a situation that was difficult to dance around, he made this statement to the media:
“Last night’s situation is the opposite of feeling good. It was an embarrassment, so I apologize to anyone who is close to me, members of the Cardinals organization, our fans. I regret it, take responsibility and I’m not sure there is anything else I can say.”
