Shawne Williams, former Indiana Pacers guard, was arrested by Memphis police when a loaded weapon and marijuana were found in the vehicle he was driving. The police yanked Williams to the curb when they noticed he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt then after checking the former University of Memphis player and his college teammate Kareem Cooper out, they discovered Williams was driving on a suspended license.
According to reports, police then searched the vehicle and found some pot. The gun made its way into this story after Cooper was patted down.
Since being selected in the first-round by the Pacers in 2006, Williams has been a ton of trouble and has left a trail of past arrests and off the court issues. One of those prior busts was also related to marijuana possession.
After a few seasons in Indiana, Larry Bird and the Pacers had seen enough of S.W. and shipped him off to the Dallas Mavericks who at this point appear to have given up on him as well.
After the Mavs sent Williams home to Memphis, Mavs owner Mark Cuban said his team was hoping to work out some “issues” with the player but after this latest incident, we may have seen the last of this player in the NBA.
