UConn’s Jamal Coombs-McDaniel arrested on drug charges

Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, a member of the Connecticut national championship basketball team, was arrested Thursday night at a campus dormitory and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on a $500 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in court on May 5.

According to the police report, Coombs-McDaniel and two other individuals were found with 5.6 grams of marijuana, a marijuana grinder and a “package of cigars used to smoke marijuana” after officers investigated the dormitory.

A spokesman for the basketball program said earlier today that they are “aware of the arrest… but beyond that have no further comment at this time”.

Coombs-McDaniel was one of eight people arrested Thursday night/Friday morning by UConn police, due to an increase in force brought on by the University’s Spring Weekend affairs. Last year, the campus police arrested around 84 people and felt that placing extra patrols and roadblocks around the entries would decrease the amount of chaos this year. Along with the extra security, UConn officials have also been limiting non-student visitors.

Coombs-McDaniel has not yet been reached for a statement, but we assume an apology and a few curse words behind closed doors will be in order.

UConn player arrested for child porn

Greg McKee, a freshman lineman for the University of Connecticut Huskies football team, was arrested today on charges of obscenity, importing child pornography and promoting a minor in an obscene performance.

McKee, shown here in a recent photo provided by UConn, surrendered to the Connecticut state police and is being held on a $75,000 bail after appearing before a judge at the Rockville Superior Court.

Although the team has declined to release a formal statement on the arrest, they did announce that he had been indefinitely suspended from the team on Tuesday. Without giving a reason, we can only assume that the team’s decision is directly related to the investigation. Which means that this idiot ended his collegiate career with exactly zero minutes on the field. Not exactly Rudy Ruettiger material, if you ask us.

According to the reports, McKee admitted to having roughly 20 images and 20 videos of child porn on his laptop, with the victims ranging between the ages of 8 and 15 years old. He also admitted to downloading child pornography and uploading it to a social site, believing that a man named “Feinmann” would pay him for his actions.

As expected, McKee never received a payment, and is now looking at time behind bars.

The investigation went underway after state police got a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about child pornography being uploaded on the social network site, ning.com. The tip eventually led to McKee, and a search warrant was issued for his dorm room, where the state’s computer crimes unit seized some of his computer equipment.

Both McKee and his public defender could not be reached for comment, but we’re sure that this 18-year-old will have enough alone time to come up something. An apology would be a nice start. After all, the Huskies now have to find somebody else to protect their future quarterback. It’s not like offensive lineman grow on trees.

McKee’s mug shot will be posted in our Mug Shot Gallery as soon as it is obtained.
